1923 - Hermann Richard Knapp founded Napp UK
Napp is part of a worldwide association of independent pharmaceutical
companies that have been developing vital new drugs for more than half a
century.
It owes its name to a Swiss chemist, Hermann Richard Knapp, who, together with
a solicitor, Ernest Alfred Clifford, registered the company in the UK in 1923.
1966 - Napp Acquired by present owners
The new owners' philosophy was simple - to improve the health and quality of
life for people everywhere by developing and delivering an ever-expanding
range of medicines. Napp pioneered the creation of prolonged release drugs,
particularly for the relief of severe pain. Its development of prolonged
release morphine sulphate tablets (MST® CONTINUS® tablets) was a world first,
and it now produces a number of analgesics in many different formulations.
Napp also produces a number of other medicines for the treatment of
cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease and gastrointestinal problems.
1980 - Moved to Cambridge Science Park
Napp moved to the prestigious Cambridge Science Park in the early 1980s,
opening its striking glass and dolomite aggregate UK headquarters building in
1983.
The success of its research and sales operations has seen the number of
employees grow to more than 800, and Napp's facilities have expanded into
three other buildings on the Science Park.
